In this interview, Denise and Adrienne discuss the Mental Fitness Program Adrienne designed and taught to Year 10 boys in Dunedin, NZ. The language of mental fitness is used to appeal to teenage boys and echoes the familiar language of physical fitness. Students found MenFit a practical, collaborative and fun course which helped improve their wellbeing. Bio
Adrienne Buckingham has been a high school English teacher since 2004 and working primarily in boys’ education. Her undergraduate in Psychology supported her in both curriculum leadership and pastoral care roles but the changing landscape of education in New Zealand inspired Adrienne to complete a Diploma of Positive Psychology and Wellbeing. Adrienne currently works with the New Zealand Institute of Wellbeing & Resilience in schools across the country and is completing a Masters of Psychology at University of Otago.
